INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

Mounting the Unit

The unit housing must remain stationary. When utilized in a conventional plain threading spindle, the stop arm provided should be mounted on the rear of the housing and restrained from rotating as the rear of the unit is driven.

Inserting the Tap

Insert the desired tap into the tap chuck of the attachment so that the back jaws will engage the square of the tap. Hand tighten the chuck nit first. Then, tighten the back jaws on those units with adjustable back jaws. (Model 4 has a fixed back jaw.) Then using the wrenches provided, tighten the chuck nut. This will assure true running of the tap.

Lubrication

This unit is pre-packed at the factory and only needs periodic additions to maintain proper lubrication. It is suggested that after approximately 600 hours of operation, a small amount (from 1/4 to 3/4 ounce of a #2 multi purpose lithium grease be added). An excess amount of lubricant will create internal friction and overheating.
If overheating is noticed due to high operating speeds or cycles, a coolant line directed onto the housing is recommended to reduce operating temperatures. In case extremely high speeds are desired, an oil mist coolant system, can be attached through the grease hole in the side of the housing.

Camming

In most instances, conventional tapping cams can be used without modification. Because of the units cushioned drive and self feeding, it is not necessary to have accurate cams to ensure high quality threads. Model 4X has 1/8", Model 12X has 3/16" and Model 18X has 3/8" of self feed. Be sure to set a positive stop in conjunction with the housing to allow for the self feed to disengage.

REPAIR AND REBUILDING SERVICE

Replacement parts are kept in stock and can be shipped within 24 hours. A unit can be shipped to our plant, freight prepaid, and for $50.00 it will be completely disassembled, cleaned and inspected. New parts will be installed if needed at additional charge. Normal repair time is 72 hours.
